The first day of PSI Dressage and Jumping with the Stars 2025 saw Australia’s finest young jumping horses take center stage in an exciting opening to the competition. With expert judges Chris Chugg, Chris Burton, and international guest Julia Hargreaves, the event showcased the next generation of top equine talent.
In the Young Horse competition, judges evaluate horses based on several key attributes to give a mark out of 100 in each round, based on:
– Jumping technique; assessing take-off, sharpness in front and back, bascule, and landing.
– Scope; measuring the horse’s natural jumping ability, quality of canter, attitude, and confidence.
– Rideability between fences, harmony, and general impression; including rhythm, looseness, suppleness, natural balance, correct canter leads, striding and the general impression of the horse.
-Penalties include 4 points per rail, 4 points for the first refusal, 8 points for the second refusal, and elimination for a third refusal.
Just after sunrise, seventeen young horses took to the arena for the first class of the day, the Southern Cross Event Hire 4-Year-Old Young Jumping horse, setting the stage for a thrilling competition. South Australian rider Susanna Verco and Ultimate Cera Z (Untouchable 27 x Quidam De Revel) emerged victorious.
