On form Robert Palm takes out GDP Grand Prix

The fifth edition of the wonderful initiative that is the GDP Classic has wrapped up this afternoon at the beautiful Boneo Park on the Victorian Mornington Peninsula. Named after its three founding organisations, Glenwood Park, Denison Park and Premier Floats, the show is a favourite of many riders and is well supported by competitors travelling from near and far to compete. With four days of competition and three arenas in use, there were classes for everybody from the 0.70m opens on arena three, right up to the Martin Collins Australia Grand Prix, which had a massive $60,000 prize money on offer. The weekend was filled with finals action as we take a look at the winners of the major classes.
The first of three major classes conducted on Saturday was the first Leg of the 2025 Stal Tops Young Rider Series – Presented by Toti Equestrian. It might be a new year for this series but the first leg of the new season saw no change to the rider at the top of the leaderboard. Jack Barker and Tulara Colchic won the Stal Tops Series in both 2023 and 2024 and he is off to a flying start this year, talking the win with Tulara On Trend as the fastest of five double clear combinations. To further highlight his current dominance of the Series, Jack was also placed second in the class, this time aboard Tulara Colchic. Third place went to NSW rider Charlie Magnier and the mare Notre Dame De Bourgignon, a combination which picked up wins in two of the four legs in the 2024 series. It looks like the 2025 series may well be a battle between these two fantastic young riders and we will watch on with great interest to see how the season unfolds. The Pink Hills Pastoral Company Future Stars class was also decided on Saturday and with over $12,000 up for grabs the competition was fierce. Once again there weer five double clears, however there could only be one winning combination and that honour went to Gabrielle Chugg and her young mare Cristallina. This combination spent much of 2024 competing in your horse classes in Europe and having arrived in Australia, look set to be a force in any young horse or future stars competitions they enter. Second place went to Jamie Kermond and Glenara Chartelle M with James Paterson-Robinson and mare Kampari in third.
The Bared Footwear Rising Stars Final saw Madeline Sinderberry and her mare Callina secure a surprise win. They came into the final having placed 28th and 17th respectively in the two preliminary rounds, however, they put their best feet forward when it counted, going double clear and completing the jump off in a very rapid 52.88 seconds. With the top six all double clear, it came down to times with 53.23 seconds enough to secure second place for Frida Lindgren and Kentaur Alba, with Greg Smith and Diamond B Bugsy third in 54.25 seconds.
Sunday competition on the main arena opened with the Goodspell Park Mini Prix which saw a large contingent of 41 combinations produce half a dozen double clear performances. The win went to Amelia Douglass and Yalambi’s Key Largo, by a margin of an even second with Jamie Kermond and Yalambis Lord Byron just on a second back in third place.
The feature class of the weekend was the Martin Collins Australia Grand Prix. With $20,000 for the winners the competition attracted a cracking field of 20 combinations, however, was a combination which can do no wrong at the moment who took the victory. Last weekend at the Sale World Cup Show, Robert Palm and his gelding Jaybee Vibrant took out the World Cup Qualifier with the only double clear performance of the class and this week at Boneo, they repeated that performance to win the GDP Classic Grand Prix. After today’s first round, they were one of just two combinations to enter the second round on zero penalties, however, in a dominant performance, they were able to repeat their zero penalty round and take the win.
With the first two legs of the 2025 Australian World Cup Qualifying Series to be held at Shepparton and Werribee during March, this combination will, most likely be looking to carry their wonderful current form into those important shows. In what was a strong day for her, second place in the Grand Prix went to the mini Prix winner, Amelia Douglass, this time aboard her gelding Quel Filou 16, who took just a single time penalty in each round. Jamie Winning-Kermond and Tulara Wat Colblensky were the fastest of the two combinations who finished on a total of four penalties, to take third place.

There were a number of Championship classes which rounded out a great day of jumping competition.
The 4Cyte Junior Championship went to Charlie Magnier and Krescendo, who produced a sizzling clear round in the jump off to beat home fellow NSW combination Valentina Hercus and Carousel GV into second with January Magic Millions Junior winners Sienna Holdswoth-Rose and Coolart Farm Short Torque in third.
On the GDP Grass Arena 2, it was a day filled with finals action. The Howden Insurance Australia Amateur Championship went to Tori Fair aboard Tulara Goldmine, with the Tasmanian combination of Jo Geard and her OTT mount Ambervale Smudge second and Lynette Jackson and Fortissimo II third.
The Melbourne Brick Children’s Championship was won by Eliza Abrahams and Emcee Street Wise, with Olivia Curtain and Ngahiwi Lady Blu in second and Eliza Baird and Wallaroo Carina third in what was a trio of double clear performances.
Last but not least was the Yandoo Park Foxhunter Series Final, which was won by Hugh Buchanan and Waitangi Neon from Ashleigh Bennett and Drought B in second with Ella Santry and Zamorra S placed third.
It was a fantastic show, this was well attended by both competitors and spectators alike.
We congratulate all the winners and placegetters across the four days of competition and the organisers for once again putting on such a fantastic event. Below is a list of all the winners and placegetters across the course of the show.
