ROUND 9 – SALE
The World Cup Qualifying Series for 2024 has wrapped up with the final leg being held at Sale on February 8. The Series has gone to Billy Raymont who came into the final Leg with an unassailable lead on 82 points. Billy finished in fifth place on his World Cup points nominated mount Tulara Dakchiko thereby earning himself nine extra points. However, with only the top five performance of the season counting towards totals, he was required to drop a score of seven, to advance his total by just two points to end the season on a total of 84.
Second place in the league went to Sam Overton, winner of the 2022 season, who was a late withdrawal from the Sale Leg, meaning he remained on 69 points. Third place in the series went to Gemma Creighton who retired during the Sale competition, seeing her remain on 62 points.
There was a tie for fourth place between Clem Smith and Phillip Lever, both finishing on a total of 60 points. Clem picked up 11 points in Sale but had to drop a score of nine to net just two points from the class, while Phillip added the full six points he picked up in Sale to his season total.
Winner of the Sale Leg, Robert Palm added 16 points to bring his season total to 40 finishing tied for eighth place with Jamie Winning-Kermond, which was a great effort from both these riders who only completed in three legs of the maximum nine possible over the course of the season.
At the end of the 2024 season the unofficial full points table is as follows:
